Claremore Main Street will again offer Tales from the Top – Upper Floor Tours and Stories at their annual holiday event, Dickens on the Boulevard.  The upper floors of five of Claremore’s most historic buildings will literally come alive during this year’s event scheduled in historic Downtown Claremore for Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21.  “Dickens on the Boulevard with Tales from the Top – Upper floor Tours and Stories adds another step back in time to this annual event”, said Nan Pope, committee chair for this year’s event.  “Participants will not only get a guided tour of the upper floors, but will also get to hear from a character closely associated with the building’s past as they portray their life in early day Claremore.  We added new and different Tales this year.  Be prepared to meet some very interesting people!”

Tickets for Tales from the Top go on sale beginning November 2nd at the Claremore Main Street Office.  Prices are $3.00 each in advance or $5.00 each after Thursday, November 19th.  Space is limited to about 50 participants each night.  “Participants will be divided into 5 tour groups, each starting in a different building then traveling as a group to the next site, said Main Street Director, Cindy Bissett.  “Each group will have about 10 participants.  We are keeping the tour groups fairly small so that everyone will be able to see and hear the living histories.  ”Buildings on the upper floor tour schedule include:  417 W. Will Rogers (formerly Anthonys, now Antiques Etc), 410 W. Will Rogers (formerly Haddad’s now Completely Country) and 300 W. Will Rogers (formerly The Ward Rooms now The Bike About), the Will Rogers Hotel (with a probable appearance by Will) and the upper floor of the Forest Building, 416 W. Will Rogers (above Heins Jewelry).  “While we would love everyone to participate, this tour may not be for everyone.  We do need to remind everyone that several of the upper floors have been vacant for the last 50-60 years”, said Bissett.  “They may be dustier than some people can easily tolerate.  Three of the tours will be also be “flash light” tours as the buildings do not have working electrical on the upper floors.  People not liking dark spaces may need to use caution.  And, lastly, the only access to the upper floor of each of the buildings is by fairly steep stairs.

“ Onstage entertainment will begin at 6:00 both evenings. The Artisan’s Village will be housed at 316 W. Will Rogers.  Attendees can visit with the artisans and learn about life in the Victorian era as they ply their trade and answer questions.  Featured tradesmen will include blacksmiths, glass blower, weaver, loomer, spinner, wood carvers, basket weaver, sculptor and more.
